King Oyo Nyimba Rukidi IV, who ascended the throne at the tender age of three, was honored with a series of traditional ceremonies and festivities that highlighted the rich heritage of the Tooro Kingdom. The anniversary marked nearly three decades of his reign, which has been characterized by efforts to preserve and promote Tooro’s cultural traditions while fostering community development.
The celebrations took place across various venues in Fort Portal, featuring traditional dances, music performances, and a display of local crafts and cuisine. The event attracted a large number of attendees, including dignitaries, local leaders, and citizens who gathered to pay tribute to their beloved king.
King Oyo, now an influential figure in Uganda's cultural landscape, expressed his gratitude and joy at the anniversary celebration. “Today is a momentous occasion for us all. It’s a time to reflect on our heritage, celebrate our achievements, and look forward to a future filled with unity and progress. I am deeply honored by the continued support of my people,” King Oyo remarked during the festivities.
The celebrations also included a special segment dedicated to acknowledging the contributions of community members and leaders who have supported the kingdom’s cultural and developmental initiatives over the years.
As the day concluded, Fort Portal was left with a renewed sense of pride and connection to the traditions and legacy of the Tooro Kingdom, thanks to the vibrant and heartfelt celebrations of #EkyootoHaMpango.
